Instructions
For optimizing, sprockets can be added by directly clicking into the graphic. A click onto a sprocket removes it. By clicking a sprocket and holding the mouse button it can be moved from side to side.
The red arrows below and above the chainwheel numbers at the right hand side increase or decrease their number of teeth. Combinations with a bad chain line are shaded.

New: To publish your favourite gear combination at your web site or in discussion forums it is now possible to create links to the gear calculator with URL parameters indicating the chainwheels and sprockets. The format is that of common URL parameters (?name1=value1&name2=value2...). The parameter for the chainwheels is named "KB" (for german word "Kettenblatt") and the sprocket parameter is named RZ ("Ritzel"), while the number of teeth is added with commas as delimiters:
